Summary

Visva is a new social media app for Gen Z, where you can build and participate in tribes (communities)! I was a Product Designer at Visva who designed their first web platform end to end and assisted on features for the iOS application. We just launched Visva Web during the holidays and are constantly updating and adding new features.

The Challenge

Visva is currently an iOS only app. Visva needed a web platform so it could provide a platform for non iOS users. This meant creating every aspect of the current app into a responsive web platform. But as web developed, so did the app, which means that this first time web experience got a few redesigns before launch!

The iOS App

The Opportunity

Visva is a new social media app that was created to cater to Gen Z. Visva gained insights from Gen Z. about what they were looking for a new social media app.

  1. Less negative vibes

  2. Wanted more IRL connections

Due to COVID, the original app launch happened, but our big marketing events did not. However, this gave Visva a second opportunity for a soft launch and even a little more time to evaluate who we are for users and how we fit in the social media space.

The Solution

After our soft launch of Visva, we got user feedback from Gen Z users. The biggest takeaways from our original app:

  1. Vibes - The users were not sure what to do with the vibes page, and from data we could tell. This isn’t a page that wasn’t getting much action.

  2. Tribes - Because the users 3rd option from the home screen from tribes, it was taking them longer to the spot where they could build their own community or find a community they wanted to be a part of. While, the IRL part of this idea is postponed due to COVID - this is what Gen Z. said they wanted, and we made it harder for them to find.

The Web Platform

The Opportunity

Visva is currently only supported on iOS. That means we are automatically excluding potential users, and at the moment - it is easier for the company to support a web platform than an Android app

  1. This gives us a web presence so anyone can find us

  2. Gives more time to test the app on iOS for our future Android app

The Solution

Visva Web transformed to be simpler. It is still different from our new launch of iOS, but took the same user feedback to build.

  1. We got rid of vibes - Users can still vibe posts and add a vibe to their own posts, but this is no longer a way to find posts. It was originally highlighted more on web than even on the app.

  2. Put tribes all over “Home” - We are giving users ways to easily access their favorite tribes on the left and ways to find new tribes on the right.

The Future

  1. Quality Assurance - Working with Development to make sure all designs have been implemented correctly as to not interfere with the current user experience but also user testing.

  2. User testing - Do they find it easily accessible? But also, is it the product they want?

  3. What’s missing? - The web platform that launched was part of a 3 month sprint. I designed and delivered around 750 pages for Web from stand alone pages to every state of a feature across all breakpoints. While a lot of work has been done, I am investigating what is missing, because something is bound to be!
